The Hingham Historical Society & The Friends of the SSCC
1OO YEARS OF THE SOUTH SHORE COUNTRY CLUB
9/22/2022

Younger than ever at 100 years of age, the South Shore Country Club (SSCC) continued its centennial celebration with a special evening at the Hingham Heritage Museum on Thursday, September 22, 2022. FSSCC Board Members Murnie Leary and Frank Brown moderated a memorable conversation about the history of the Club. The evening began with a discussion with 7th generation owner of the Hersey Farm, Peter Hersey, about the land ties to the Hersey Family and Hingham buckets – inspiration for the Club’s iconic logo. Additional members of the Hingham community such as Ed Dann shared his mother Gail Cronin’s family ties to the South Shore Country Club’s original construction and financing. Georg Kaye and Murnie Leary and other SSCC friends shared special moments in golf history and the club management. The evening concluded with a reception and toast to the SSCC! Please read a summary of the event from Jack Kelleher of the Hingham Harborlight here.
